Welcome to Grandeur!

A Superhero/Supervillain based roleplay that follows our faithful heroes and villains of Titan around. In this server, we have an extension of options for each character, civilian and mutant alike. You can create your own story through your OC, and we desperately hope you have fun here. In order to get yourself situated, I highly recommend reading through all of the lore channels which describe more-so what to expect and how things run. For now, you can read through some explanations so you’re able to get a feel for how our server operates.

Heroes and Villains

With power, comes conflict. After the Voidwalkers were thwarted, a new conflict rose to the forefront: Heroes vs. Villains.

Due to this age-old rivalry against those who keep the order, and those who wish to uproot it, combat ends up being one of the main focuses of the RP, to which we have an extensive PVP system set in play to keep order.

Setting

Grandeur takes place in the wonderful city of Titan. Titan is a large city, extensive with many RP channels for a lot of RPs to take place! There’s unique parts to each place in Titan, which is worthy of checking out.

Everything is not quite what it seems, so always do a double take whilst wandering the streets. Ever since the League of Heroes have been put in place, the crime rate in Titan has been lowering, however, there’s always something to keep your character busy here.

Mutants

Mutants are the most common type of people to become our heroes and villains! Mutants, essentially, are the ones with powers/abilities. Coming into play after the Voidwalkers visited and spread a contagious virus to the human race, mutants began to grow in numbers. At first, mutants were not our lovable peoples with powers. People grew heavily afraid of them, and most were kept under heavy supervision.

However, as the years went on, mutants were normalized, but are still quite small in numbers. Generation after generation of mutants began popping up, and to this day, are still pretty much accepted by society.

Heroes

Heroes are the good guys of our story, obviously. These dudes come in many different shapes and sizes, but they all share one thing. They graduated from the League of Heroes, an organization destined to help turn mutants into crime-fighting heroes.

There are always going to be your vigilantes, the ones who didn’t go through the trouble of proper schooling, but those seem to be gaining less and less popularity. Truthfully, Pro Heroes began after “The Trinity” helped kickstart the League of Heroes. If you want your character to become a Pro Hero, they’re going to have to graduate from the League of Heroes, and wear the proper ring to signify so.

Villains

On the opposite side of the spectrum, we have our villains. The crime inducing maniacs who bring terror to Titan, for reasons of their own. Most villains tend to go without schooling, however, a lot of villains have graduated from the League of Heroes and have ended up flipping over to the other side. Despite this, there are many villain organizations to benefit these guys, due to there not being much of a graduate program for them.

These organizations will help your villain characters in climbing up the charts and staying off the radar. A popular villain organization to keep the villains together is the Mafia, however, on the more logic side of things, The Firm will help your villain to survive this mess. Let’s just say, your character will have all things covered.

PvP Guide

Grandeur is a multiplayer, plot-driven, combat-heavy RP server and as such PVP conflict in canon is often inevitable and even necessary. This guide therefore exists to help you avoid certain problems that may arise from this, and provide context and rules in regards to and concerning what to expect once your character has joined the fray.

Combat

Your character will be granted the opportunity to level up by gaining XP, which comes in through RP events and combat plays. Events will be fairly common in this server to get things up and running, however, there will always be a chance for your character to level up. In order to see how “powerful” a character is, your character will be ranked by stats. Stats rank a character on how well their power, intelligence, speed, technique, and skillfulness is. Stats are labeled as followed:
D Rank (D3 - D1)
C Rank (C3 - C1)
B Rank (B3 - B1)
A Rank (A3 - A1)
S Rank

By being an active member and participating, your character will level up faster, and can climb the charts on becoming a top villain or superhero.

Heroes

Heroes are individuals who are licensed to use their powers to protect civilians from Villains, natural disasters, and/or any other kind of harm. Those who take heroism as a profession are referred to as Pro Heroes.

Heroes generally work in groups known as Hero Agencies which must include the League of Heroes as the parent or sole agency of said hero before any other sub-teams. The standard is one very strong Pro Hero in charge, and a number of weaker/newbie heroes who serve as Sidekicks under the primary Hero. All new heroes, fresh out of High School or College, must serve as Sidekicks to an established hero for a year before they are able to go solo.

Some heroes prefer to work alone and are unaffiliated, save their League membership and license.

In order for a person to become a licensed Pro Hero, they must undergo an education and training program in the subject of heroism. This Heroics course is integrated into a students High School education. The Heroics course includes rescue training, combat training, and even training for dealing with the media.

Hero Names are considered very important to a professional career, as they can bring a person closer to the image they may want to cement, and are also able to reflect their true character.

A Hero License is a certification that allows Pro Heroes to use their mutations freely. In order to obtain a Hero License, one must complete all three years of heroics education in High School or be otherwise certified by the League.

The Social Media Superhero, also referred to as the "SMS", is a website that can only be accessed by Pro Heroes and registered members of the free press. It contains activity reports of Pro Heroes across the globe, as well as information on known Villains, including their names and abilities.

Heroes can also use the Social Media Superhero Network to send requests for assistance to other Heroes who possess a mutation that may be useful for a determined crisis

The Ranking Billboard

Monthly, all Heroes and hero teams in the world are ranked by an event called the Global Hero Billboard Charts. The rating is determined by various factors, including a Hero's level of strength, number of resolved incidents and contributions to society (XP), and public approval (GM discretion).

The official rankings are changed on the wiki to reflect the results, though they may vary from the official stats rankings (the strongest Hero may not always be the top, as a result of public approval ratings).

The No.1 Hero is called the Top Hero and regarded as the symbol of peace worldwide. Their public image is of great importance. Saturn Girl was the first Top Hero.

Villains

Villains are people who use their powers to commit crimes, cause destruction, and potentially put innocent lives at stake. There are many different types of villains in this world.

Villains are generally groups of people, working together or operating individually, who abuse their gifts to benefit themselves instead of helping others. Unlike heroes, these people prefer to commit crime and atrocities. Villains may not always be mutants as all maleficent members of society possessing resources with which to bring about great harm or be a great threat to the masses may be considered villains.

In the current age, the crime rate committed by villains is quite low as a result of pressure from the large amount of heroes.

Villains act alone more often than heroes but also recognize the benefits of being affiliated with groups. There are a myriad of Villainous teams and alliances, constantly changing with time as their fickle partnerships begin and end. The most notable, long-lasting organisation of villains is the Mafia.

The Most Wanted

The No. 1 Villain is called the Top Villain and regarded as the Symbol of Terror worldwide. Though, there has been no tradition of such a position existing, it is generally granted to whoever is so terrifyingly strong and hard to catch that the world's Law Enforcement has deemed them deserving of the title of "Most Wanted".

Combat and OC Deaths

Combat is an important part of our RP as Heroes and Villains (and rogues) exist to clash. In Grandeur, violence is sometimes - very often - the answer.

Time passes in Turn Orders and Turns. A turn order is made up of all the turns/replies of every RPer involved in a given RP at a particular time. A turn is a single reply from an RPer that completes a turn order. In RP (IRP, in canon), a turn lasts 6 seconds so that 10 turns are required for a minute to pass (unless the RPers involved agree to a faster or slower progression of time in their interaction).

Game Masters (GMs) oversee events and RPs and make sure that OCs stick to their limits and that events of an RP are logical in context of the characters' powers and the situation in which they are used. This, along with assigned stats, help to prevent Godmodding and make it clear when certain actions succeed and when they fail.

An OC may be killed in combat (or otherwise) if they take damage that is fatal to them. Dead OCs will be retired and their status will be changed on the wiki as soon as is possible, meaning that their players will have lost said characters and would need to make new ones in order to continue RPing.

Permission is not required for an OC to be killed. The rules, GMs and stats help make this a balanced playing field so that all characters enjoy similar advantages but intelligent RPing is necessary in order to avoid sudden deaths and you must choose what conflicts and scenarios you take part in very wisely.

Stats, XP and Ranking Up

In order to avoid uncontrolled use of powers that we expect will often be incredibly versatile or powerful, we make use of stats. Stats are assigned values that define the limits of an OC's powers and abilities (e.g. max. temperature achievable 100C) at their current rank (D-S rank). Stats are assigned to OCs during the approval process by Approvals Mods. A range of stats exist within each rank. Where an OC falls in this range is determined by the Mods and RPer during approval.

In canon ranks are:
D Rank (D3 - D1)
C Rank (C3 - C1)
B Rank (B3 - B1)
A Rank (A3 - A1)
S Rank

OCs will normally begin at the bottom tier and make their way up the ladder. As they rank up, they may improve their abilities or stats if they choose. A number rank-up (C3 to C2) permits an improvement in stats as a new range of values becomes available for the OC. A letter rank-up (C to B rank) will allow the player to add a new, sensible aspect to their OC's powers if approved by the Mods.

Characters rank up by taking part in RPs which yield XP. XP is counted and accumulated from RPs, in canon activity, participation and relevance. The higher an OC's XP, the higher they rank and thus, the stronger they become.

In canon, this improvement is explained as an Awakening.

Events and Teaming Up

GMs will endeavour to create and run as many events as possible as smoothly and as often as possible. There will be overarching story-driven arcs, one-offs, missions and adventures of all sorts and it benefits your character a great deal to take part in as much of this as they possibly can. Events often give the greatest amount of XP when finished, not to mention they help your OC earn currency that will be rewarded to participants and currency will help you purchase equipment, costume pieces and even channels/lairs if sufficient.

Some players and characters will prefer to work alone, and that is fine but there is great benefit in teamwork and joining guilds for both Heroes and Villains. OCs taking part in events with members of an established team they are a part of will more often than not, gain significantly more experience and currency (based on said guild's influence on the outcome) from those events than they would have if they were going it solo. This system exists to emphasize the canon importance of being part of a group that offers protection and resources far greater than a single individual can amass.

All Heroes are already by default a part of the League of Heroes but will get no great rewards for that as it is, as mentioned already, a default team membership and does not require much interaction to pull off. If your character is determined to go it alone and you have what it takes to go that route, then you should do that. Otherwise, it would be wise and incredibly rewarding and satisfying to be a part of something bigger than yourself.
